Engagement Rate Calculator
Your engagement rate the way Pinterest's own analytics counts it, from the numbers in your analytics. Instagram and TikTok too.
Pinterest, by its own definition
2.4% engagement rate
(120 saves + 300 Pin clicks + 60 outbound clicks) ÷ 20,000 impressions = 2.4%
- Save rate: 0.60% Pinterest: “The total saves of your Pins divided by the total number of times your Pins were on screen.”
- Pin click rate: 1.5% Pinterest: “The total number of clicks from your Pin or ad to content on or off Pinterest, divided by the total number of times your Pins or ads were on screen.”
- Outbound click rate: 0.30% Pinterest: “The total number of clicks to the destination URL associated with your Pin divided by the total number of times your Pins were on screen.”
Pinterest: “The total engagements with your Pins divided by the total number of times your Pins were seen. Engagements include saves, Pin clicks, and outbound clicks.”

Quick answer: Pinterest defines engagement rate as the total engagements with your Pins divided by the total number of times your Pins were seen, where "engagements include saves, Pin clicks, and outbound clicks". So it is (saves + Pin clicks + outbound clicks) ÷ impressions. Type the four numbers from your Pinterest Analytics above to get your rate. You also get your save rate, Pin click rate and outbound click rate, each exactly as Pinterest defines it.
How to use it
- Open your analytics and pick one date range: Pinterest Analytics' overview, Instagram's Insights, or the TikTok analytics for a video or a period.
- Copy the numbers across for that same range. You can type them the way the apps show them: 12,500, 12.5k or 1.2m all work.
- Read the rate and the sum behind it. On Pinterest you also get the three rates Pinterest defines. Type your carousel swipes and collections clicks too, and you see the wider total that Pinterest's Engagements number counts.
- Copy link saves the numbers, so next month you can compare the two rates side by side.
Pinterest's own definitions
These are quoted from Pinterest's help page on Pinterest Analytics, checked on 28 September 2026:
- Engagement rate: "The total engagements with your Pins divided by the total number of times your Pins were seen. Engagements include saves, Pin clicks, and outbound clicks."
- Impressions: "The number of times your Pins or ads were on screen."
- Save rate: "The total saves of your Pins divided by the total number of times your Pins were on screen."
- Pin click rate: "The total number of clicks from your Pin or ad to content on or off Pinterest, divided by the total number of times your Pins or ads were on screen."
- Outbound click rate: "The total number of clicks to the destination URL associated with your Pin divided by the total number of times your Pins were on screen."
The same page counts engagements in two ways. Its Engagements metric "includes saves, Pin clicks, outbound clicks, carousel card swipes, secondary creative (collections) clicks", while the engagement-rate line names only the first three. The calculator uses the rate's own three, and it shows the wider total too when you type your carousel swipes and collections clicks. That way both of Pinterest's numbers are visible and you can see which one your dashboard shows. Our guides to impressions and to Pin clicks vs outbound clicks explain what each count means.
Instagram and TikTok
Instagram: Meta's help (About Instagram Insights) defines interactions as "the number of actions that people take when they engage with your content, such as likes, comments, saves and shares", and views as "The number of times that your content was played or displayed". It gives no engagement-rate formula, so the calculator divides interactions by views. If you type your viewers, the unique accounts that saw it, you also get the rate by viewers, which is always the higher of the two.
TikTok: TikTok's own help gave us no engagement-rate formula for organic posts, so the calculator uses Sprout Social's: engagement rate "measures the ratio of views to interactions (likes, comments, replies, shares and saves)" (Sprout Social). That is interactions divided by views.
Is my engagement rate good?
None of the three networks publishes a "good" engagement rate, so this calculator does not invent one. A rate depends on the niche, the format, the season and how much of your reach comes from people who already follow you. The comparison that means something is your own rate against your own last month, measured the same way, which is what the saved link is for. Our guide to Pinterest engagement rate covers what moves it.
