Amazon Associates link: 2 things to check

  • Amazon's own list of social sites leaves out Pinterest Pinterest names Amazon Associates US as a partner, but Amazon's help says: “We currently only accept the following social networks: Facebook (including open group pages and fan pages, but excluding personal pages), Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Tik Tok and Twitch.tv.” Both are quoted because they disagree: check which sites your Associates account lists. Amazon Associates Help (the sites you may list)
  • #ad is lost in a group of hashtags The FTC: “Don’t mix your disclosure into a group of hashtags or links.” Put it at the start, in words. FTC, “Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers”
  • One of Pinterest's named partners Pinterest's affiliate guide names Rakuten, LTK, Shop Style and Amazon Associates US as its official partners, and says: “Pinterest isn't part of the affiliate agreements, so you'll need to choose an affiliate network.” Pinterest Create, “Getting started with affiliate links on Pinterest”

A line to start the description with (our wording)

Ad: I earn a commission if you buy through this link. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Every rule is quoted from Pinterest, the network or the FTC, checked 2 October 2026. Nothing is fetched: we read the link only, so a short link's end is unknown to us, as it is to a Pinner. Not legal advice.

Quick answer: yes, you can pin an affiliate link: it goes in the pin's destination link, like any other link. Pinterest names four official partners, "Rakuten, LTK, Shop Style and Amazon Associates US", and says "Pinterest isn't part of the affiliate agreements, so you'll need to choose an affiliate network." What gets an affiliate pin in trouble is the link's shape (a shortener, a chain of redirects) and a missing disclosure. Paste your link above to see whose it is, what Pinterest and the program say about it, and the line to start the description with. Nothing is fetched.

How to use it

  1. Paste the affiliate link exactly as your network gave it to you: the long link, or the network's own short link.
  2. Paste the pin's description too, if you have written it. The checker looks for the disclosure and where it sits.
  3. Read each line of the verdict. A red cross means the link is likely to be blocked or no longer works; an amber mark is something to check; each one quotes the page it rests on, with a link.
  4. Copy the disclosure line and put it first in the description.

Which affiliate networks does Pinterest name?

Pinterest's own guide, Getting started with affiliate links on Pinterest, names Rakuten, LTK, Shop Style and Amazon Associates US. It does not say links from other networks are refused, so for Awin, CJ, impact.com, eBay Partner Network, ClickBank and the rest, the program's own terms (or each brand's inside it) decide whether you may share its links on Pinterest. The checker recognises each of these by its link's shape, as the network's own help pages show it.

⚠️ Shop Style: ShopStyle Collective, later Collective Voice, has closed: its site, its old help pages and every shopstyle.it link now open one page that says "Collective Voice is officially closed." (read 2 October 2026). Pins that still point at a shopstyle.it link need a new link.

Amazon affiliate links on Pinterest: two sources that disagree

Pinterest names Amazon Associates US as a partner. Amazon's own help lists the social sites it accepts: "We currently only accept the following social networks: Facebook (including open group pages and fan pages, but excluding personal pages), Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Tik Tok and Twitch.tv." Pinterest is not on that list. We print both, because averaging two rules into one would invent a third: before you pin Amazon links, check which sites your Associates account lists, and ask Amazon if Pinterest is not one of them.

Amazon is also strict about short links: "You will not use a link shortening service, button, hyperlink or other ad placement in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site." Its own amzn.to links make it plain. The statement Amazon gives Associates to use is "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases."

Short links, redirects and blocked pins

Pinterest's affiliate guide says "Some shortener services are not currently supported on Pinterest." Its Community Guidelines explain why: "With respect to redirection, we encourage you to follow a “no surprises” principle – Pinners should be able to reasonably anticipate where your link will take them. Links that exhibit excessive or deceptive redirection, as well as shortener services that are abused for spam, may be blocked."

  • Pin the full affiliate link, or the network's own short link, rather than a general shortener.
  • A "pretty link" on your own site (such as yoursite.com/go/product) is a redirect too. The checker flags the usual shapes; it cannot see where they end.
  • A link inside a link (an affiliate link whose destination is another short or affiliate link) is two redirects before the shop.
  • Pinterest's API accepts a pin link of up to 2,048 characters.

How to disclose an affiliate link on a pin

The FTC's Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers is plain about it: "Place it so it’s hard to miss." "Simple explanations like “Thanks to Acme brand for the free product” are often enough if placed in a way that is hard to miss. So are terms like “advertisement,” “ad,” and “sponsored.”" And: "Don’t mix your disclosure into a group of hashtags or links." Pinterest's own guidelines ask the same: "Be transparent about the commercial nature of your content and about your links and their behavior."

So put the disclosure in the first sentence of the description, in words, not at the end among the hashtags. Our suggestion is "Ad: I earn a commission if you buy through this link." This page is not legal advice: the FTC's guide and your program's terms are the rules.

FAQ

Can you use affiliate links on Pinterest?
Yes. Pinterest's guide to affiliate links explains how to put one in a pin's destination link and names four official partners: Rakuten, LTK, Shop Style and Amazon Associates US. Pin the full link (or the network's own short link), describe the product honestly and disclose that it is an affiliate link.
Can I use Amazon affiliate links on Pinterest?
Pinterest lists Amazon Associates US among its partners, but Amazon's own help lists the social networks the program accepts, and Pinterest is not on that list. The two disagree, so check which sites your Associates account lists before pinning Amazon links. If you do pin them, keep it plain that the link goes to Amazon, as Amazon's policy requires.
Why did Pinterest block my affiliate link?
The usual reasons are a general link shortener ("Some shortener services are not currently supported on Pinterest."), a chain of redirects, or a link to a page that no longer exists. Pinterest's Community Guidelines say links "that exhibit excessive or deceptive redirection, as well as shortener services that are abused for spam, may be blocked." Pin the full affiliate link instead.
How do I disclose an affiliate link in a pin?
Start the description with it, in words: for example "Ad: I earn a commission if you buy through this link." The FTC says terms like "advertisement," "ad" and "sponsored" are clear, warns against shorthand like "sp" or "spon", and says not to mix the disclosure into a group of hashtags.
Does this checker open my link?
No. It reads the text of the link in your browser and never visits it, so it cannot see where a short link ends. Your link is not put into this page's address either: only "Copy link to this page" makes a link that carries it, when you ask for one.
