Pinterest’s profile cover: a cover must be at least 800 pixels wide x 450 pixels tall, and We recommend you use a horizontal image with a 16:9 aspect ratio (Pinterest’s help); we make 1600×900, twice that. A board cover is The largest image when viewing the board from your profile. (Edit a board); Pinterest gives it no size, and its profile draws it as a square (we measured it), so we make 1000×1000. Quick answer: Pinterest has two covers. The profile cover is the wide picture at the top of a business profile: Pinterest’s help says it must be at least 800 pixels wide x 450 pixels tall and We recommend you use a horizontal image with a 16:9 aspect ratio, so this maker draws it at 1600×900. A board cover is The largest image when viewing the board from your profile. Pinterest gives it no size, but its profile draws it as a square (we measured it), so this maker draws it at 1000×1000. Add your photos and a line of text above, then download.

How to use it

  1. Choose the cover: the wide profile cover or the square board cover.
  2. Add your photos. Three to five look best. Tap one on the cover to move it, choose which part of it shows, replace it or remove it.
  3. Type your line of text: your name or what you pin for a profile cover, the board’s name for a board cover. A few extra words are optional.
  4. Pick a layout and a background, then Download the cover. It is drawn in your browser, and your photos never leave your device.

Putting it on Pinterest

A profile cover needs a business account: If you have a Pinterest business account, you can upload an image as your profile cover. On your profile, click the plus icon at the top right, drop in the picture, drag it to crop it if you need to, and click Done (Pinterest’s steps). Our Pinterest Profile Cover Size checker checks a single picture against the same rules and crops it to 16:9.

A board cover is one of the board’s own Pins, not a separate upload. Save the square picture to the board as a Pin first. Then open the board, click the ellipsis next to its name, choose Edit board, and click the plus icon to update the board cover (Edit a board). Pinterest also has a header image, which is a different thing: A featured image at the top of the board. You will need to have at least one Pin saved to your board in order to add a header image. It can be changed only in the Android and iPhone apps.

Why a board cover is square

Pinterest’s help says what a board cover is but not what shape it is drawn in, so we looked. On Pinterest’s own profile, read on 3 October 2026, each board’s cover is drawn as a square: 176×175 pixels on a desktop screen 1440 wide and 120×119 on an iPhone. The picture is cropped to fill the square (object-fit: cover), and two boards showed different parts of their covers, one near the top and one near the bottom. So a tall 2:3 Pin used as a cover loses most of its height, and a square one loses nothing.

Size guides agree on the square and disagree on the size. Tailwind says The best size for Pinterest board covers is 1000 x 1000 pixels (square). (Tailwind, 9 October 2025). Dimensions.com says Pinterest Board Covers have a height of 600 px and width of 600 px for an aspect ratio of 1:1. (Dimensions.com). Since the profile draws a cover at under 200 pixels wide, either is sharp. We make 1000×1000, so the same picture also works as a square Pin.

The profile cover on a phone

A wide cover on a narrow screen is cropped toward the middle, so anything at the far left or right may not be seen. The line of text sits across the top, centred, and the photos fill the rest. Keep the photo that matters most in the middle. Our guide to the Pinterest profile cover shows what to put there.

Where the layouts come from

The grid, collage and pinboard layouts and the backgrounds are PinPinterest’s own, the same ones our Mood Board Maker uses. None of them is a copy of a designer’s template. For your brand’s colors and fonts on one page, use the Brand Board Maker. For the board’s name, try the board ideas and name generator.

FAQ

What size is a Pinterest board cover?
Pinterest doesn’t publish one. Its profile draws each board cover as a square (176×175 pixels on a desktop, 120×119 on an iPhone, as we measured), so make it square: guides say 1000×1000 (Tailwind) or 600×600 (Dimensions.com). This maker draws 1000×1000.
How do I change a Pinterest board cover?
Save the picture you want to the board as a Pin. Then open the board, click the ellipsis next to its name, choose Edit board, click the plus icon by the cover, pick the Pin and click Done.
What size is a Pinterest profile cover?
At least 800 pixels wide and 450 tall, and Pinterest recommends a horizontal 16:9 picture. This maker draws 1600×900, twice the minimum, so it stays sharp on a big screen.
Can I add a profile cover with a personal account?
Pinterest’s help describes the profile cover for business accounts: “If you have a Pinterest business account, you can upload an image as your profile cover.”
Why does my board cover look cut off?
Because the profile shows it as a square. A tall Pin used as a cover shows only a square slice of it. Use a square cover, or keep the words in the middle of a tall one.
