Quick answer: Neither kind of Pinterest account costs anything. A business account adds Pinterest Analytics, the Business Hub and ads, and it is always public; a personal account can be private. Pinterest lets you create a new business account only on a computer: go to pinterest.com, click Sign up, then Create a business account. Or convert the personal account you have under Settings › Account management, in the app too; your Pins and followers stay. You can switch back at any time. Linked business accounts are gone. For two accounts, connect a second one with a different email and switch between them.

Personal or business: what’s the difference?

Neither costs anything. Pinterest’s help (Get a business account) names them: Personal and business accounts on Pinterest are similar, but business accounts include features that are helpful to business owners and marketers. This includes access to the Pinterest Business Hub and Pinterest Analytics, where you can review analytics for your Pins. Business accounts also give advertisers and merchants the ability to create Idea ads, video ads, carousels, collections ads, product catalogs and more. For people who make Pins, its creator site (How to get started) adds: With the business account, you can gain access to content creation tools and unlock advanced analytics in the Creator Hub.

Convert a personal account to a business account

This one works in the app as well as on a computer, under Account management. You can convert your personal account to a business account. Business accounts are public on Pinterest, so if your personal account is set to private, it must be switched to public in order to convert to a business account. Your Pins and followers will remain the same. You can switch back to a personal account at any time. If your personal account is linked to another Pinterest account, you’ll need to unlink your account before you can convert it to a business account. The Pinterest Privacy Checker has Pinterest’s steps to make a profile public.

Switch a business account back to personal

From Convert a business account to a personal account: Convert your business account to a personal account if you do not want to use the account for business, or no longer need analytics tools or access to ads. If you have outstanding bills, you’ll need to pay them before you can convert your account.

Two accounts: connect them, don’t link them

Older guides tell you to add a “linked” business account to your personal one. Pinterest has ended that: Note: It's no longer possible to link a personal account to a business account. If you previously linked your accounts, they’ll remain connected unless you unlink them. And from Connect Pinterest accounts: Linked business accounts are no longer supported on Pinterest. If no action was taken to convert your linked business account, it has been permanently deactivated. It’s not possible to reactivate it. What replaces it: Connect your Pinterest accounts with different emails so you can easily switch between them. Once you’ve added an account, you can switch between them as long as you remain in the same browser session.

If you manage a client’s or your company’s account

If you're an employee or an agency partner creating a business account to access your company’s or client’s ad account, we recommend using your professional email and your own name rather than the name of your business. That is a new business account of your own, created on a computer, and it can be connected to a personal account you already have.
