Delete or archive a Pinterest board?

Pinterest's help (Archive or delete a board) puts the choice in two sentences: If you're finished with a board for now but think you might want to look at it again someday, archive your board. If you're sure you never want to see a board again, you can delete it. An archived board is out of the way but not gone: When you archive a board, you can find it at the bottom of your profile, below your boards. Archived boards will not show up in your public profile and you will not be able to save Pins to it. You can unarchive a board at any time.

What happens when you delete a board

The board's Pins go with it: When you delete a board, all the Pins on the board are deleted, too. To keep a few, move them to another board first (the Delete, Unsave or Hide a Pin tool has Pinterest's steps to move many Pins at once). There is a week to change your mind: After you delete a board, you’ll have seven days to restore it in the Recently deleted section.

How to recover a deleted Pinterest board

Open your profile, go to Recently deleted and choose Restore, within the seven days. Where you do it matters: You can only restore your board on desktop or Android. Pinterest's help gives no iPhone or iPad steps, and on a business account its note is narrower still: You can only restore a board on a desktop device.

How to merge boards on Pinterest

Merge two boards or sections together to keep more of your saved Pins in one place. You can merge any boards or sections that you own. (Merge boards and sections) On the web the last button reads Move Pins and Delete Board, and that is what happens. Pinterest lists three things to know first:

  • When you merge a board into another board, the followers of the merged board will not transfer to the new board
  • If you merge a secret board with a public board, the privacy settings of the destination board will apply
  • To undo a merge, you’ll need to create a new board or section and move the Pins there, one by one

Sections inside one board merge the same way; the Board & Sections Planner covers sections.

Make it private instead

A board you want only for yourself does not need to go: Only you (and anyone you invite) can see your private boards. And it is one switch back: To make a private board public, toggle off Make this board private in the board settings. For a business account, one more line: Private boards and Pins can not be promoted through Pinterest ads. (Private boards; the Pinterest Privacy Checker shows who can see a board with your settings.)

A group board you joined

You can't delete a board someone else owns, but you can step out of it (Leave a group board): You can leave a group board if you’ve been invited to be a collaborator. If you are the owner of the group board, you can delete it just as you would any other board.
