TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator

Your TikTok engagement rate from the numbers in your TikTok analytics: by views, the way Sprout Social defines it, and by followers, the way Hootsuite does. Pinterest and Instagram too.

TikTok: interactions ÷ views

9.3% engagement rate

(800 likes + 40 comments + 30 shares + 60 saves) ÷ 10,000 views = 9.3%

  • Engagement rate by followers: 18.6% Hootsuite: “ER post = Total engagements on a post / Total followers *100”

Sprout Social, "TikTok metrics": “Engagement rate. This video metric measures the ratio of views to interactions (likes, comments, replies, shares and saves).” TikTok's own help gave us no formula for organic posts.

Quick answer: a TikTok engagement rate is a video's interactions (its likes, comments, shares and saves) divided by its views, times 100. With 930 interactions on 10,000 views, that is 9.3%. Some people divide by the account's followers instead, which gives a different number for the same video (18.6% with 5,000 followers). Both are shown above, each with who defines it, because TikTok itself publishes no formula for an ordinary post.

How to use it

  1. Open the video's analytics in the TikTok app and note its views, likes, comments, shares and saves.
  2. Type them above. Numbers can be typed as TikTok shows them: 12.5K, 1.2M or 1,250 all work.
  3. Add your followers if you want the rate by followers as well.
  4. The rate and the sum behind it appear at once. Copy link keeps your numbers, so you can compare this video with the next one.

Two formulas, and who uses each

  • By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. Sprout Social, a social media software company, defines TikTok's engagement rate this way: "This video metric measures the ratio of views to interactions (likes, comments, replies, shares and saves)." (Sprout Social, "TikTok metrics".) It tells you how many of the people who watched a video did something with it.
  • By followers: the same interactions ÷ followers × 100. Hootsuite calls this "engagement rate by post (ER post)" and writes it as "ER post = Total engagements on a post / Total followers *100", adding: "(Most social media influencers calculate their average engagement this way.)" (Hootsuite, "How to calculate engagement rate", Christina Newberry, June 2026.)

The two can be far apart. A video that reaches well beyond your followers can have more interactions than you have followers, so its rate by followers goes over 100% while its rate by views stays ordinary. Hootsuite also warns about the views figure: "View counts often include repeat views from the same user. This can lower ER views compared to other engagement rate formulas." Use the rate by views to judge a video, and the rate by followers when you compare creators, and always compare like with like.

What TikTok itself says

TikTok's own help pages list the numbers in your analytics, but we found no engagement-rate formula there for ordinary posts. That is why both formulas here are named after the company that publishes them, not presented as TikTok's.

What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?

TikTok does not publish one. The averages you will find elsewhere come from marketing companies that each measure a different set of accounts, by views or by followers, over different months, so their figures disagree. Rather than print one of them as a target, this calculator gives you your own number the same way every time. The useful comparison is your video against your previous videos, worked out with the same formula.

Why a Pinterest site has a TikTok calculator

Many people who pin also post the same ideas as TikTok videos, and want one place to compare them. The calculator also does Pinterest, by Pinterest's own definition, and Instagram. For Pinterest alone, open the engagement rate calculator, which starts on Pinterest and explains its save, Pin click and outbound click rates.

FAQ

How do you calculate engagement rate on TikTok?
Add a video's likes, comments, shares and saves, divide by its views, and multiply by 100. For 800 likes, 40 comments, 30 shares and 60 saves on 10,000 views: 930 ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 9.3%.
Should I divide by views or by followers?
By views to judge how a single video did, because it counts only people who saw it. By followers when you compare accounts, which is how many creators report their engagement. Say which one you used when you share a number.
Why is my rate by followers over 100%?
Because the video reached many people who do not follow you. Their likes and comments count, but they are not in your follower count. It is a sign the video travelled, not a mistake.
Do saves and shares count as engagement on TikTok?
In Sprout Social's definition, yes: likes, comments, replies, shares and saves. This calculator counts likes, comments, shares and saves. Replies are comments, so type them in the comments box.
Does this look up my TikTok account?
No. It never contacts TikTok and never asks for your account: it works only with the numbers you type, copied from your TikTok analytics.
