The size is Pinterest’s own: We recommend using a 2:3 aspect ratio, or 1000 x 1500 pixels (Pinterest product specs, checked 3 October 2026). The download is a JPEG, a file type Pinterest takes.

Quick answer: To make a before-and-after pin, add your before photo and your after photo above. Choose top and bottom, side by side or split down the middle, and drag each photo into place. Then download it. The pin comes out at 1000 × 1500, Pinterest’s recommended 2:3, with your labels on it, as a JPEG Pinterest accepts. Your photos stay on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Which layout to choose

Top and bottom gives each photo the full width, half the height each. It suits a room, a garden or a car, anything wider than it is tall. Side by side gives each photo the full height and room for a title above. It suits a person, a doorway, a plant or a shelf. Split down the middle puts the left half of the before next to the right half of the after, in one frame. It only works when both photos were taken from the same spot, and then it is the most striking of the three.

Pinterest’s size, in its words

From Pinterest product specs: We recommend using a 2:3 aspect ratio, or 1000 x 1500 pixels, and Pins with an aspect ratio greater than 2:3 might get cut off in people's feeds. That is why every layout here is exactly 1000 × 1500, never taller. The file is a JPEG, and Pinterest’s file types are File type: .PNG or .JPEG.

One pin, or a carousel?

Pinterest also takes the two photos as separate images in a carousel. Its specs for carousel images are 1:1 or 2:3 and 2 to 5 images per carousel. A carousel shows one photo at a time, and the reader swipes to see the change. A single before-and-after pin shows both at once, in the feed, before anyone taps.

Photos that compare well

Take the after photo from where you stood for the before, at the same height and distance, in similar light. Then the eye goes to what changed, not to the angle. Drag each photo so the same thing sits at the same place in both frames: the window, the doorway, the face. If a photo is sideways or the wrong one is first, use Swap or pick it again.

More than a label

For a pin with more words on it, such as a title, steps or a link line, the Pin Designer lays out text on a 2:3 pin. To check a pin you already have, the Pinterest Image Size Checker reads its size against Pinterest’s specs.

FAQ

What size should a before and after pin be?
Pinterest’s recommended size for every pin: We recommend using a 2:3 aspect ratio, or 1000 x 1500 pixels. This maker always downloads exactly that.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The pin is drawn in your browser and downloaded from it; the photos never leave your device. The link you copy keeps only the layout, the labels and the colour you chose.
Can I write my own labels?
Yes. Choose “My own words” and type up to 24 characters for each photo. If you leave one empty, it says Before or After.
Can I add a title?
On the side by side layout, yes: a title band above the two photos, up to 48 characters. The other two layouts give the photos the whole pin.
Why does my iPhone photo not open?
Some browsers can’t open HEIC photos. Save or share it as a JPG first, and pick that.
