What these letters really are

They are not a font. Each one is a different character that looks like a letter, which is why it survives a copy and paste. Unicode, the standard that numbers every character a phone can show, on the block most of them come from: The characters in this block are intended for use only in mathematical or technical notation, and not in nontechnical text. The Unicode Standard 17.0, chapter 22 (Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols)

Folds back means Unicode's own compatibility folding (NFKC) turns the character into the plain letter: a search that applies it reads ๐ as B. Pinterest publishes nothing we could find on how its search reads these letters: none of its help, business or developer pages we searched (1 October 2026) mentions them.

On screen readers, the US government's accessibility guidance: โ€ฆscreen readers may struggle to properly identify special characters, so it is best to avoid using them in social media posts. Section508.gov (US General Services Administration), Social Media

Small caps: x stays x (Unicode has no small capital x) and q stays q (its small capital, ๊žฏ, only arrived in Unicode 11 in 2018, and a font made before then draws a box). Italic, script, gothic and their bold forms have no digits of their own, so digits stay plain there too.

Checked 1 October 2026. Every character and name is from the Unicode Character Database 17.0.0. Nothing you type leaves this page.

Quick answer: Pinterest has no font setting, so a "Pinterest font generator" does something else: it swaps your letters for other characters that look like styled letters. ๐ is not a bold B, it is U+1D401 MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL B, a separate character, which is why it survives a copy and paste. Unicode, the standard those characters come from, says the mathematical ones are intended for use only in mathematical or technical notation, and not in nontechnical text. Pinterest doesn't say whether its search reads them as your words, and screen readers may struggle with them. So use them to decorate a bio, and keep names, board names and pin titles in plain letters. Type your words above: each style shows what it really is.

How to use it

  1. Type your words, or paste a bio or board name you decorated before.
  2. Pick where they will go: your bio, your profile name, a board name, a pin title or a description. The advice under the answer changes with it.
  3. Copy a style. The label beside each one says whether Unicode folds it back to your letters.
  4. Pasted fancy letters? The box above the styles gives you the same words in plain letters, to copy back into Pinterest.

Do fancy fonts hurt your Pinterest SEO?

Pinterest doesn't say. None of its help, business or developer pages we searched mentions these letters, so nobody outside Pinterest can tell you how its search treats them, and we won't guess. What we can show you is what the letters are:

  • Most of them fold back. Unicode files bold, italic, script, gothic, outline, typewriter, wide, bubble and square letters as variants of the plain ones. Its compatibility folding (NFKC) turns into "Home" again. A search that applies it reads your words. A search that doesn't sees different characters.
  • Two never fold back. Small caps are separate letters, mostly borrowed from phonetic alphabets ( is LATIN LETTER SMALL CAPITAL C), and dark bubbles are symbols. No Unicode folding turns them into your letters.
  • So keep what people search for in plain letters. A board name or a pin title is a search phrase. A bio has room for a decorated word next to a plain sentence about what you make.

What a screen reader does with fancy letters

People who use a screen reader hear a page instead of seeing it, and a fancy letter isn't a letter to the reader. Section508.gov, the US government's accessibility guidance, puts it plainly: โ€ฆscreen readers may struggle to properly identify special characters, so it is best to avoid using them in social media posts. Some readers skip the characters, some spell out their names one by one, and each style above shows the name Unicode gives its first letter. That is one more reason to keep a board name plain.

Where fancy letters are fine

In a bio, one or two decorated words next to plain sentences say who you are and still read well. Our guide to Pinterest bios covers what those sentences should do. For the fields people search, start from plain words: the board name generator suggests keyword-first board names, the username generator checks a handle against Pinterest's own rules, and the pin title & description checker counts what Pinterest limits.

FAQ

How do I change my font on Pinterest?
You can't: Pinterest shows every bio, name and title in its own type. What looks like a font on someone's profile is a run of other characters, like the ones above, pasted in. They survive because they are characters rather than formatting: the device draws each one from whichever of its fonts has it.
Do fancy fonts affect Pinterest search?
Pinterest doesn't say. Most styles fold back to your letters under Unicode's own compatibility folding, but small caps and dark bubbles never do, and whether Pinterest's search applies that folding isn't published. Our advice is to keep board names, pin titles and your profile name in plain letters, and to decorate only what nobody needs to search for.
Can screen readers read fancy text?
Often not well. Section508.gov says screen readers "may struggle to properly identify special characters, so it is best to avoid using them in social media posts". Depending on the reader, a fancy word is skipped or spelled out as a list of character names, such as "mathematical bold capital B".
Why does my fancy text show boxes or question marks?
The phone or computer showing it has no font with that character, so it draws a box instead. Newer characters are the usual cause, which is why this tool leaves q plain in small caps: its small capital only arrived in Unicode in 2018.
How do I turn fancy text back into normal text?
Paste it in the box above. The tool reads each fancy letter back to the plain letter it stands for, including small caps and dark bubbles, takes out lines drawn through or under the letters, and gives you the plain words to copy.
