- Wider than 2:3. Every pin in a Pinterest feed is the same width, so a wider picture is a shorter pin — crop it to 2:3 below.
- 900 px wide — under the 1000 px of Pinterest's recommended 1000×1500.

Quick answer: the Pinterest pin size is 1000×1500 pixels, a 2:3 ratio, as a PNG or JPEG of up to 20 MB (32 MB in the app). Pinterest says pins "with an aspect ratio greater than 2:3 might get cut off in people's feeds". A profile cover is 16:9, at least 800×450. Image pins are PNG or JPEG, up to 20 MB on a computer and 32 MB in the app. Videos can be anywhere from 1.91:1 (wide) to 1:2 (tall), and Pinterest recommends square or vertical: 1:1, 2:3, 4:5 or 9:16. How to use it
- Choose an image from your phone or computer. It is opened by your browser and never uploaded.
- Read the verdict: its size, its shape and what Pinterest's specs say about it. If it is taller than 2:3, a dashed line marks where a 2:3 pin ends. Anything below that line might be cut off in a feed.
- Pick what to make: a standard pin, a square, a 9:16, a profile cover or a profile picture.
- Crop or fit. Crop to fill uses the whole frame and trims what does not fit. Use the slider to choose what stays. Fit the whole picture keeps all of it and adds a border in white, black or a color taken from the picture.
- Download the JPEG. On a phone, Download opens the share sheet, where "Save Image" puts it in your photos.
Why 2:3
Pinterest's feed is a grid of columns, and every pin in it has the same width. A pin's height is therefore set by its shape. A 2:3 pin is one and a half times as tall as it is wide: tall enough to stand out, and short enough that Pinterest shows all of it. A landscape photo becomes a short strip, and a pin much taller than 2:3 may be cut off. The pin designer starts every pin at 1000×1500 for this reason.
Crop or fit?
Crop when the subject sits in part of the picture, which is true of most photos. You lose the edges and keep a pin with no borders. Fit when every part matters, such as an infographic, a chart or a screenshot. The whole picture stays, and the empty space becomes a border. A border in a color taken from the picture usually looks deliberate. Plain white can look like a mistake.
