What makes a board name findable

• The subject comes first. A phone profile shows only the start of a long name. "Small Kitchen Ideas and Inspiration" still tells a visitor something when it is cut short, while "Ideas and Inspiration for Small Kitchens" shows only "Ideas and Inspiration f…". • Three to five words. One word, like "Kitchens", competes with every other board called Kitchens. Ten words are hard to read. Every extra word should add a different idea, not repeat one: "Small Kitchen Ideas for Small Kitchens" says "small kitchen" twice.
• One subject per board. A board that holds everything you like has nothing specific to be found for. Split "Home Stuff" into "Living Room Decor Ideas" and "Kitchen Organization Ideas".

How long a board name can be

Pinterest does not publish a limit for board names in its help pages. Its API sets no maximum at all: in Pinterest's own API description, a board's name has no length limit, while a board section name is capped at 180 characters. The app is a different matter. SocialRails reports that the Pinterest app stops a board name at 50 characters, recommends 20 to 30, and gives 500 characters for a board description. A scheduler that posts through the API may accept a longer name, but you cannot type one in the app. This tool flags anything over 50 characters, and it names who says so.

Seasonal boards

Seasonal boards like "Fall Home Decor" or "Christmas Recipes" follow the same rule: the season, then the subject. Make the board and start saving to it well before the season arrives, while people are still planning, rather than on the day. They are offered for niches where seasons change what people look for, such as home, food, fashion and gardening. Renaming a board you already have

If the checker flags a board you have had for years, you can rename it: its pins, saves and followers stay with it. There is one catch, which is that the board's web address changes. Read renaming Pinterest boards before you rename one you link to from your website.
