Which way works
| You have | What Pinterest’s help says |
|---|---|
| A name or username | Type it in Pinterest’s search, then the Profiles filter shows people, creators and brands; private profiles never show |
| Their username | Their profile’s web address is www.pinterest.com/ followed by the username |
| Their Pincode | Scan it with Pinterest Lens, the camera in the Pinterest app; it opens their profile or a board |
| A link they send | Share on their profile sends it on Pinterest or through another app; a private profile’s invite link lasts three days or five people |
| An email or phone number | No profile search by either; an email only finds contacts when you send a Pin, board or profile |
| Nothing shows | Private profiles (every under-18 one, unless a teen over 16 makes it public) and deactivated ones don’t appear in search |

Quick answer: To find someone on Pinterest, type their name or username in Pinterest’s search, tap the filter icon at the top-left of the results and choose Profiles. If you know their username, their profile is at www.pinterest.com/ followed by it. Private profiles never show in search, and Pinterest’s help gives no way to look someone up by email or phone number. In those cases, ask them for their username, a link to their profile or their Pincode. The tool above gives Pinterest’s steps for each on your device.
How to find someone on Pinterest: a friend, a creator or a brand
Pinterest’s own article is Find and follow people: Find people on Pinterest to follow them and see more of their Pins.
It starts in the search bar. From Discover ideas on Pinterest: You can search for Pins, boards, or people in the search bar.
On the web, log in, type the person’s name or username and press enter. Then click the filter icon at the top-left of the results, select Profiles and click Confirm. In the Android and iPhone apps, tap the search icon at the bottom of the screen and type the name. Then tap the filter icon, select Profiles and tap View results.
How to search profiles on Pinterest
Profiles is a filter on the search results, and it covers more than friends: Profiles: Tap Profiles to discover creators, people and brands based on your search
. So a shop, a blogger or a magazine is found the same way as a person. Pinterest’s article also shows a notice in some countries: It looks like Profiles tab is not available in your area.
Where you have no Profiles filter, open the profile from its web address (below), or ask the person to send it to you.
How to search a person on Pinterest by username
A username leads straight to the profile. From Edit your profile: With your username, Pinterest is able to create a unique web address for your profile. For example, Pinterest has the username “Pinterest” and can be found at www.pinterest.com/Pinterest.
So the account jane_doe lives at www.pinterest.com/jane_doe. Type a username in the box above and the tool builds that address for you to open. A Pinterest username is 3 to 30 letters, numbers or underscores, never only numbers, so a name with a space is searched, not opened. If you need to tell someone where to find theirs: Your username appears next to your profile picture under your profile name.
How to find someone’s Pinterest account from a Pincode
A Pincode is Pinterest’s own scannable code for a profile or a board (Create Pincodes™): When someone sees your Pincode™, they'll use Pinterest Lens to scan it. You can set up a Pincode™ to send people to your profile or any of your boards.
Lens is the camera icon in the search bar of the Pinterest app. To put your own profile on a flyer as a standard QR code instead, the Pinterest QR Code Maker makes one from your profile’s address.
Can you find someone on Pinterest by phone number or email?
Pinterest’s help describes no way to look up a profile by email address or phone number. The one place it takes an email is sending. In Share Pins, boards, and profiles, its web steps say to search your contacts by entering someone’s name or email, to send them a Pin, a board or a profile. That reaches them with something you sent; Pinterest’s help doesn’t say it shows you their profile. Some guides describe uploading your phone’s contacts to find friends. We found no Pinterest help article for that, so this page repeats none of their steps. The sure way is to ask for their username.
Why can’t I find someone on Pinterest?
Most often the profile is private: Keep in mind that you won’t be able to search for people with private Pinterest profiles.
From Make your profile private or public: Private profiles won't appear in search results on Pinterest or in search engines, but you can invite people you know to follow you.
The person can send you a link instead (Invite people to follow you): If your profile is private, you can share a unique profile link with people you trust to invite them to follow you. Keep in mind that each link will expire after three days or after it's used by five people.
Teens are private too, and Pinterest’s two articles put the age differently. Teen safety options says: If you’re under 18, your profile will be private. This means your profile won’t be discoverable and your activity on Pinterest will be hidden, but you can invite people you trust to follow you.
The privacy article says: Profiles for teens from 13-16 years old are private by default and cannot be made public. You must be 16 or over to edit your profile visibility.
The Pinterest for Teens page has the rest of Pinterest’s teen rules.
A deactivated account is hidden as well (Deactivate or close your account): If you deactivate your account, you can take a pause from Pinterest and reactivate your account later. Your profile and boards will not be visible unless you reactivate your account.
And if they blocked you, Pinterest’s help doesn’t say whether they still show in your search. Its words on blocking are on the Block, Unblock, Unfollow or Report page.
Help people find you on Pinterest
Being found is the same list in reverse. A public profile shows in Pinterest’s search, and outside it too (Update your search privacy): Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo may show your profile or boards in their search results. If you don't want to appear in search results, you can edit your settings to turn on search privacy.
Your web address is www.pinterest.com/ and your username, so put it in your bio, your email signature and your shop. A printed Pincode needs room: When displaying your Pincode™, the circular part should be a minimum of 1.5 inches in diameter to be scannable.
To check what a stranger can see of you, the Pinterest Privacy Checker has Pinterest’s settings, and the Pinterest Username Generator helps if your handle is hard to find.
